La Société, this lovely Montreal French bistro

I remember visiting La Société when it opened in Toronto a few years ago. It was the place to go, to visit. Then, the restaurant opened a location in Montreal. Same concept, same winning dishes. Welcome to the chicest diner in town.

The bar at La Société

La Société is a French bistro with a nice ambiance that offers a typical and refreshing menu. The raw bar is my favorite part of the place – their oysters are excellent! The tartars are also some of their signature dishes. Seafood, burgers and terrines garnish the menu, alongside charcuterie and cheese platters. Gilles Tolen, the mastermind inside the kitchen, holds many years of experience, and has visited the best eateries in Paris, before deciding to take control over the kitchen in Montreal in 2016.

On my list of favorite dishes, the scallops and the pork belly served with its cuttlefish ink chips, or the half-lobster served with fried Brussel sprouts are two amongst many. The hazelnut and mushroom cavatelli are also very tasty, and of course, you cannot visit a French bistro without tasting the beef undercut and fresh fries!

La Société is well known for its charming French décor and its Instagram-worthy flooring. During the summer, its terrace offers a lovely view of Ogilvy and allows the sunshine to poke its nose inside the restaurant. La Société is one of the best restaurants downtown – because yes, Montreal would definitely gain from more restaurants like such! Ideal for animated dinners as well as business lunches, the place also offers excellent brunches on weekends.
