Jatoba, Montreal’s trendy taste of Asia

Asian cuisine is continuously evolving. More and more high end restaurants across the world are incorporating Chinese, Japanese or fusion recipes — and Jatoba is one of them. It is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in the city, and I recommend it every time someone asks me about my favourite places in town. Here’s why.

The mastermind behind the menu is none other than Olivier Vignault, easily one of the most well-known chefs at the moment. Having originated from the Vieille Capitale, Olivier has actually won the last two editions of the Balnea’s Chefs’ Summer. In the heart of his creations, you can find high quality produce, freshly imported fish, and more. The iconic dish? The sashimi bowl that is not even on the menu, but is what makes up Jatoba’s reputation. Other signature dishes are the dumplings, the perfectly made tatakis, the black cod, the fried rices or even the tasty salads. The menu is pretty diverse, so sharing dishes is a great way to try a bit of everything.

The restaurant is located in the heart of downtown, right next to The Bay. A modern and chic decor welcomes you to a trendy and refined ambiance. The beautiful terrace situated in the back is many people’s favourite, especially in the summer. It is now open all year long, allowing groups to gather and celebrate.
