8 tips to survive a long trip on the plane

Travelling is one of the most wonderful privileges we have, and whether it is to sip on fresh coconut juice in the south or taking a walk through ruins miles and miles away, new destinations are always some of our best memories. But before stepping onto the golden sand or onto authentic European pavements comes the dreaded long-haul flight. Tiring, stressful and often boring, long flights seem endless, but there are ways to make your trip feel first class — even if they are not!

Stay hydrated

I don’t mean to drink water, even though it is very important. I mean keep your skin refreshed and hydrated. Airplane rides are known to dry out the skin very quickly, leaving you with a feeling of discomfort and tiredness. Hydrating mists are a great and portable way to protect your skin and give you an overall fresher feeling that will help make the ride feel a lot less uncomfortable. A tip from Korean stars (and their perfect complexion!) is to spray the mist all around you, which keeps the area fresh.

Treat yourself

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but don’t forget to relax and take care of yourself. After all, it is not often that you get a chance of sitting back and doing nothing for hours! Feel free to bend your seat back, to order a glass of champagne and whatever appetizer you can get your hands on, and start nibbling! Often people will bring a lot of work to do on the plane, which seems like a good opportunity to catch up on certain deadlines, but doing so in such a small area with so many people around just makes it even less appealing. Enjoy yourself (and the airplane beverages selection) instead!

Shhh… Silence!

Silence is golden anywhere, whether it be in your office or when you’re watching a movie. But on a plane, the tiniest noises can get extremely distracting — the natural sounds of the aircraft, the breathing of someone sitting behind you — and these noises can affect your experience negatively. Ear plugs are a convenient way of blocking noises off, but these can get extremely uncomfortable. Invest in a good pair of headphones! To plug into the screen in front of you or into your own gadget, good headphones will make you feel more at home — while letting you enjoy the entertainment provided to you by the airline. If you are planning to use your own devices only, an even better idea is to use wireless headphones — they won’t get entangled in your blanket.

Stylish flying

What you wear at the airport while boarding, landing, and on the plane is everyone’s first impression of you. Getting off a plane feeling heavy and bloated is inevitable, but you can always wear something that will mask it! Longline cardigans are an all-around great item because not only are they cozy and warm (and act like a blanket), they look great on any body type. Pair them with a comfortable cotton tee and high-waisted leggings for a touch of sportiness. You’ll feel way better in a stylish outfit than in an oversized hoodie and old sweatpants!

Don’t forget about the underwear…

Dressing correctly plays a huge part in flying comfortably, and that includes underwear! You will most likely be seated for a long, long period of time. If you want to sleep on the plane, you will want to be comfortable! Wear your most comfortable underwear and bra, such as a good bralette! Wired bras can cause discomfort and make it harder to sleep. Instead, opt for a wireless and seamless lace bra.

Eat the right foods

Again, airplane air is known to be incredibly dry. Salty snacks, although tempting, are simply there to dehydrate you even more. If you are hungry, munch on foods high in water such as cucumbers and fruits. These same foods will make you feel less bloated throughout the plane, and when you land. Because of the change in air pressure causes bodily gases to expand, bubbly drinks can also cause bloating, so avoid those! The last thing you want to feel is discomfort during your flight.

Sleep tight

What better than to sleep to make the time go by faster? Make yourself comfortable, bring a memory foam travel pillow and if you can, even your own small blanket will feel a lot better than the stiff and oversized ones they provide on the plane. However, do not sleep through the takeoff and the landing, because the discomfort caused by sudden change in air pressure will hurt your ears longer than if you were awake and chewing gum during!

Makeup bag essentials

Finally, the last tip is to have a well-packed makeup bag. Lip balm and hand creams are a given, but have you thought of hand sanitizer, sleeping masks, eye masks, or cleansing wipes? Most of these products come in sample form so not only do they respect flying guidelines, they are also easy to carry. Again, feeling good and fresh is the first step to any good plane ride!
